So I finished my 2 weeks of my first wage job ever!
Again, it was the first ever time that I did a job like this, so it was a great experience with a lot to learn.
The first week I was way too concentrated on trying to learn all the new things, and not trying to cry over my aching legs, so I’m really glad I had the 2nd week as well.
I realised I was much more aware of my surroundings and what others were doing, as well as felt much less panicky whilst doing time-sensitive tasks, especially because I wasn’t so focused on my legs.
By halfway past the 2nd week, I managed to get the hang of some of the tasks and was able to do them without thinking about each step of it. This was great because I wasn’t as mentally exhausted by the end of the day!
Also as I said last week, there is quite a big deaf population at the warehouse, so I was wondering how things ran and how the bosses communicated with them.
But as I was working I realised that there was barely any verbal communication either!
A lot of the job rotation was instructed via whiteboard and magnets, so as I walked into the warehouse first thing in the morning I could just pop in and see for myself. I think this was also really efficient, as there doesn’t have to be a “whole group meeting” or anything like that before work. I am not a fan of taking in the morning either so it helped me too.
Another thing I said last week, there was quite a bit of “simple” physical labour, and I was worried it would quickly get boring and tiring.
Truth was, there was quite a range of roles within the job that were rotated around people daily, so for 2 weeks of being there, there was no boring moment.
And for the more stagnant roles, there were multiple people doing the job at the same time so they would be speaking to each other all the time.
So overall it was a lot of learning and many experiences I had never done before!
Hopefully my next job would be fun and a lot to learn as well.
