独断と偏見でボソボソ言ってみる
ども〜〜！
おはようございます、ケイトです。
パソコンの充電池ちゃんの減り方が阿呆なので今日はアップルストアに行きます（メモ）
〜ここから圧倒的適当な自論ゾーン〜
私の勝手な偏見かもしれないけど、日本にいる海外留学志望の子たちって、ほぼ全員アメリカ行きたがりません？？？？
…いや多分私の周りがそうなだけかもしれないけど。そんな印象があります。
なんでだろう？？？
「日本人であること」に関係するのか？とも思ったんですが、私の学校の日本語クラスにいる４人は誰もアメリカ受験する気ないらしいです。じゃあやっぱり「日本に居ること」かも知れない。
日本人がアメリカに行きたい仮説。
日本はアメリカ英語、シンガポールはイギリス英語
それ以前に、日本に住む人はアメリカに馴染みがもっとあるのかもしれない。
日本でのイギリスの空気とか存在感薄いし、国同士が仲良い訳でも無い（悪くも無いけど）。
その上、世界的なトレンドですが、ニュース等でもアメリカほどは登場しないです。
普通に空気薄いから無視されている…？
なんで周りがアメリカあまり受けないのか仮説。
そもそも将来アメリカに行きたいと決めている人は、よく考えたら高校がイギリス系のIBを取る理由がまずないんですよ。
最初からアメリカのシステムに則り勉強すればいいのです。
アメリカ式テストを結局受けないといけないのに、その上にめちゃくちゃ時間を費やすIBを受ける理由があま〜り無いんですよね。
大変の二乗になっちゃう。IBだけで手一杯。
だって普通にアメリカシステムで勉強をしていた場合の方が得になるし。
ってことは、やはりそれに向いた勉強をするために、アメリカ志望の人達はシンガポールのアメリカンスクールに集中していることも考えられる。
だとしたら周りにあまりいないのも納得。
わざわざIBやると考えられる理由…IBという、ものすごい国際関係や福祉などにも力を入れる高校生活を送りたいなら、とか。
と考えたら、日本にはそもそもインター校自体が少ないから、アメリカに行きたい留学志望生もみんなIB校に集中しちゃったのかも？
どうなんだろう。でもインター校生徒じゃなくアメリカ受けたい人も大量にいるし、実際いろんな人に話聞いてみたいなぁ。アンケートとかばら撒いたら面白そう。
というかアメリカのアプリケーション大変すぎる説。（これは仮じゃない）
アメリカの大学を受験するには成績表、推薦文、自分についてのパーソナルステートメントというエッセー、課外活動やインターン等これまでの履歴書、そしてアメリカのテスト結果です。IBはイギリスのテスト結果だとしたら、SATやACTがアメリカのテスト結果で、これの点数によって他の生徒と比較されます。
要は出す書類も多ければ書くことも受けることも死ぬほど多くてアプリケーションが大変です。
この上に、いい大学はだいたいもう１つエッセーを書かせます。タイトルが５、６つほどあって好きなの書いていいよ〜ってやつ。
アメリカの大学を何校も受けると、何個も何個もエッセーを書くことになります。しんどい。
IBやっててそこまで時間とって頑張るのがもうすでに最大の関門な気がする。
あ、でもアメリカを受けたい人がIBにはいない、って訳ではありませんよ。
勉強システムが肌に合うから、みたいな人もいます。アメリカ受けるけどIBに凄い力注いでる人。
ちなみにクラスメイトがスタンフォード大学に受かったことが昨日発覚しました。ｽｺﾞｲ。
なんで同じクラス内なのに月とスッポン程の差が出るのか、誰か教えてください…

In my personal experiences, I feel like a lot of my friends in Japan want to go to the States for university.
Why is it that my friends in Singapore usually don't say so…?
For a second I suspected it was a Japanese thing, but when I asked my Japanese classmates in school, I was surprised to find out that none of them was even applying to the States. NONE!
So why?
Here's a couple of theories.
1. Japan likes the States.
Well, the Japanese education system teaches American English, and more familiar with the States.
Also, I think the States appear in media more often, way more than the UK, which is why it doesn't have much reputation in Japan.
2. IB students, especially, often are not so interested in the States.
Because… their IB students!
The IB is a UK system, so often the people are interested in applying to countries like the UK, Canada, and other countries. If they wanted to pursue an education in the States, they simply go to a Singapore American school. Which makes total sense that a lot of people around me are not so interested in the States.
Well, if you think about it in that logic, then it takes back to how Japan doesn't have many international schools, neither are there American schools, so maybe why also IB students in Japan want to go to the States.
3. The American applications are a PAIN.
No really. They are. Not saying that all other applications are easy because they are not (NOT), but the States require so much!!!!
Not only the application form, but reference/recommendation letters, transcripts, personal statement essays, things to prove your past work or volunteer experiences, and more. AND, you need a SAT or ACT- American standardised tests. ON TOP OF IB!!! The IB programme is busy enough already, so unless you're super dedicated and determined to go to the States, or you are a workaholic and don't mind overworking, then you don't just "try out" the States.
I'm not saying the IB=Not States; like my classmate just got into Stanford (oooooh).
But there's a variety of preferences, you know.
