夏日

おはようございます。
書類やら申請やらにてんてこ舞いのケイトです。
法的用語って何でこんなに分かりづらいんでしょう。
「カナダに最初に入国した日」って、最初の学生ビザと大学入学許可証を持って3年前にカナダに入国した日なのか、2年前に新たに更新されたパスポートと学生ビザで入国した日なのか、去年夏休み後に帰ってきた日なのか、どれなんでしょうか。
私では手一杯なので誰かに頼ろうと思います。

そういえば、昨日の夜はどうやら太陽フレアでバンクーバーではオーロラが見えていたらしいですね！
あ、私は寝ていたので、見過ごしました。
一生に一度のチャンスだったんだろうな…
というかつい最近も期末に集中して皆既日食も見逃したな…
ハァ…

太陽といえば、今日と昨日だけ急にとっても暑かったですね。
サングラスがないと５分も歩きたくない、雲ひとつない晴天でした。やっぱりカナダは気温よりも太陽の日差しを強く感じます。
最高気温26度って、急に夏みたいですよね。「夏日」の基準は最高気温２５度以上なので、名実共に暑い日でした。
でも明日からまた最高気温21度に戻るようです。相変わらず気温の乱高下が凄いですね。

その偶の暑い日である昨日にちょっと不幸が重なりまして。
私は会社の帰り道にバスに乗るのですが、バス停の近くに踏切があるんです。
いつもは全然電車が通らないので気にしてなかったんですけども、そこはとても長い貨物列車が通るところでして。これが長いの長いの。
体感10分近く通り続けていましたね。
その踏切前に車が溜まりに溜まって、大渋滞になっていました。
その渋滞の中に自分が乗るはずのバスが巻き込まれ、遅延し、結局その２６度の木陰もない空の下、バス停に30分以上立っていました。
既にその日はいつも乗っている一本前のバスが早く出発してしまい、待っていた日だったので、余計疲れていまして。
もう暑すぎて、頭痛の気配までし始めていた頃にやっと電車が通り終わりました。
仕方がないので、その足で遠回りしてマンゴーヤクルトジュースを買い、笑顔になって帰宅しました。
家に不機嫌を持ち帰らない、自分の機嫌を自分で取る、偉い！！(浪費)
以上、理由をつけてジュース買いに行っただけのお話でした。

Recently I’ve been busy with all the paperwork and applications.
Why are legal terms so confusing?
When it says “the date you first entered Canada”, does it mean the date I entered Canada 3 years ago with my first student visa and the initial university admission letter, or the date I entered Canada with my renewed passport and updated student visa 2 years ago, or the date I came back last year after summer vacation?

By the way, apparently, due to the solar flare last night, the Northern Lights were visible in Vancouver!
Oh, me? I was asleep and missed it.
Must have been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity…
I mean, I was concentrating on the end-of-the-term tests and missed the total solar eclipse recently too…
Huh…

Speaking of the sun, it was suddenly very hot today and yesterday in B.C.
I don’t want to walk outside even for 5 minutes without sunglasses.
Personal thought, but in Canada, the sun’s rays feel stronger and more direct than what the temperature reads.
The maximum temperature was 26 degrees Celsius! Suddenly feels like summer, doesn’t it?
However, it is going to be back to a maximum of 21 degrees Celsius tomorrow.
The temperature fluctuates wildly as usual.
There was a bit of a misfortune on that very hot day yesterday.
I take the bus on my way home from work, and there is a railroad crossing near the bus stop.
Normally I don’t pay attention to it because trains don’t go through there at all, but yesterday was the day I noticed that it was where an extremely long freight train goes through
It felt like the train had been passing for almost 10 minutes straight.
Because of this, there was a huge traffic jam in front of the crossing.
The bus I was supposed to take got caught in the said traffic jam and was delayed, and I ended up standing at the bus stop for more than 30 minutes under that 26-degree Celsius sky!
Next time, I am definitely bringing my sun umbrella.
