バンクーバー滞在1週間目

最終的にトロントからの撤収は無事終了し、現在はバンクーバーの新居に少しずつ馴染んでいます。
最後にバンクーバーに来たのは去年の夏と結構最近ですが、長期滞在は八年前の中学生の頃にサマースクールに来た時以来ですね。
今回はトロント大学の卒業式までの二ヶ月弱、こちらに住んでインターンシップを頑張る予定です。
（ちなみにバンクーバーというよりかは、ブリティッシュコロンビア州の、バンクーバー付近のちょっと離れた場所なのですが、分かりやすさを優先してバンクーバーと今後も記載します。）
せっかくなので、トロントとバンクーバーの違いでも。
まず、天気。
トロントに比べて「どんよりと暗い」という日が多く感じます。
晴れの日は晴れの日でとってもいい天気なんですけどね！
雲が多かったり、まるでもうすぐ雨が降りそうな空模様、でもそのまま降らずに一日経つ、といったことがある感じです。たまに小雨がすこーし降ったり降らなかったり。
トロントはもうちょっと分かりやすく、雨なら雨、って感じだった気がします。
そもそも雨が多いのは知っていましたが、雨未満の天気も多いんですね。
実は数値だけで見るとトロントとはそんな湿度が変わらないはずなのですが、雨のせいか、トロントよりはるかに乾燥していないように感じます。
気のせいなのでしょうか。不思議ですね。
あと、話には聞いていましたが、やっぱりBC州は物価が高いですね。
外食も勿論ですが、買い物に行っても食材の一つ一つが見慣れた値段より高く感じます。
自分なりの指標ですが、タピオカの値段も平均的に少し高いです。これが一番困ります。
自分は今、少し田舎というか住宅街の方に住んでいるのですが、最寄りのバス停に来るバスが三十分に一本でして、その点が個人的には今まで住んできた中でもトップクラスに不便だなと思います。
バスに乗らないと駅にも出られないので、その三十分刻みの時刻表に合わせて全て行動しないといけません。
実質移動時間は三十分ほどなのに、バスとバスのかみ合いの都合上一時間前に出ないと間に合わなかったり。
都心から離れれば離れるほど、車のある生活が前提なのは改めて感じましたね。
時間には十分余裕を持って、バスを逃して遅刻！なんてことがないように、頑張りたいです。

Hello everyone, Kate here.
My moving out from Toronto has been completed successfully in the end, and I am now slowly settling into my new home in Vancouver.
The last time I came to Vancouver for a visit was quite recent, the summer of 2023, but I haven’t stayed here for longer periods of time since I came here for summer school, all the way back to my junior high school student days 8 years ago.
This time, I plan to live here for a little less than two months, until my graduation ceremony at the University of Toronto, and do my best for my internship.
(By the way, it is a little bit far away from Vancouver but still in British Columbia, but for the sake of clarity, I will continue to refer to this place as Vancouver.)
Since I’m here, I’d like to share about some of the differences between Toronto and Vancouver.
First, temperature and weather.
Compared to Toronto, it can be more “dreary and gloomy”.
It has some really good sunny days too, of course!
But on average it feels like the sky has many clouds, and quite often the sky can look as if it is going to rain soon, but it doesn’t rain and a day goes by. That kind of gloomy.
In Toronto, it was a bit easier to understand: if it rains, it rains.
I knew there was a lot of rain in this region, but I didn’t know there was also a lot of less-than-rain weather.
Apparently, if you look at the numbers alone, the humidity should not be so different from Toronto, but to me it feels much less dry than Toronto.
Or am I imagining things? Strange.
Also, prices are in fact, higher in BC.
Not only for eating out, but also when I go shopping, it feels like each food item is more pricy than I am used to seeing.
A personal indicator, but the price of bubble tea is also a little high on average. This is what bothers me the most.
I currently live in a slightly rural and residential area, and the buses to the nearest bus stop come once every 30 minutes, which I think could be one of the most inconvenient areas I have ever lived in.
You can’t get to the train station without taking the bus, so I have to do everything according to that 30-minute timetable.
For example, the actual travel time could be only about 30 minutes, but due to the mismatch between buses’ schedules, I have to leave my house an hour in advance to make it in time.
The further you get from the city centre, the more the infrastructure is designed to live with a car.
Hopefully I don’t miss the bus and end up late!
