寒そうなのは自分だけ
おはようございます。
どうもケイトです。
数日前から家のWifiが壊れてしまいました。これがまぁ不便。
自分は大学と家の往来以外ほとんど外で携帯を使わない上に、電車はなかなか電波が通らないのでそこでもあまり使わないんです。
そもそも自室が地下なので電波も悪いですし、本当にWifi以外使わない生活なので、毎月のデータ容量を最小に設定しています。
おかげでだいぶギリギリの生活を送っています。私ってやっぱり携帯中毒だったんだなと痛感する日々です。
あと課題するためだけに図書館に行かないといけないので、図書館に長時間滞在しているのですが、これが面倒。
４月のオンライン試験中じゃなくてよかったとな、と自分に言い聞かせていますが、やはり自宅で熱い紅茶を飲みながら課題をしたいです。
先週の日曜日にサマータイム、つまり夏時間が始まりました。
日照時間の長い夏に合わせて時間を変える制度です。
具体的にいうと日本との時差が１４時間から１３時間に、１時間進んだ感じですね。
サマータイムというだけあり、ここ数日は暖かい日が続いています。
とはいえ私はシンガポール育ちのとんでもない寒がりなので、安定の冬用コートを着ているのですが、カナダ育ちの子たちはすでに春に向けてのウォームアップを始めている様子が見えます。ちょっと薄手のジャケットになったり、厚手のトレーナーだけだったりね。
で、これがちょっと衝撃的だったのですが、早速アイスクリームトラックが出現していました。
私がコートで首をすくめて歩いてる隣で、アイスを齧りながら歩いている人がいるんですから、不思議な光景です。
トロント育ちとそれ以外の見分けは簡単とは言いますが、分かり易すぎる。
去年も確か私は４月の中旬まで分厚いコートを着ていて、周りは既に春服みたいなことになっていましたね。
多分今年も「最後までコート組」になることでしょう。
と、ここまで書いてから天気予報を見ましたら、来週の日曜日は雪予報でした。
トロントは本当に天気がコロコロ変わりますね。
雪の日の外出は大変だから、それまでにWifiも直ってると良いな……。

Wifi at home has been broken for a few days now.
This is much more inconvenient than I thought!
I rarely use my phone outside the house, except to and from the university, and I don’t use it much on the train either because the signal is not good underground here.
So I set my monthly data allowance really low.
Thanks to this, I am living my life on the edge. Gosh, I’m addicted to my phone.
I also have to go all the way to the library just to do my assignments, so I spend a lot of time in the library, which is a hassle on it’s own.
Trying to convince myself that it’s better than it happening in the middle of the online exams in April, but I still want to do my assignments at home with a cup of hot tea.
Daylight saving time, or summer time, started last Sunday.
It’s a system to change the time according to the long daylight hours of summer.
Specifically, the time difference with Japan has moved forward one hour, from 14 hours to 13 hours.
Since it is summer time, the weather has been warmer for the past few days.
However, I grew up in Singapore, so I am still wearing a thick winter coat, but I can see that the people who grew up in Canada have already started to get ready for spring.
And shocker: an ice cream truck had appeared early.
It’s a strange sight, because next to me walking around with my coat, there’s another person walking around eating ice cream.
They say it’s easy to tell the difference between who grew up in Toronto and who didn’t, but this is a bit too obvious.
I recall last year as well, I was wearing a thick coat until mid-April, and everyone around me was already in spring clothes. Probably happening again this year.
