学校だけじゃないシンガポール
おはようございます。
どうも溶けそうなケイトです。
シンガポール暑すぎて笑うしかないね。
たった３年しかこの国を離れてなかったのに、どうやらその間にトロントや日本に慣れてしまったようで驚きましたね。
午後２時ごろの真っ昼間に買い物に出かけたところ、ほんの３分程度でサウナに１０分以上入ってた人みたいな状態になってしまい、ちょっと室内に避難して汗を拭くのが大変でした。
超エアコン効いてるのに全然汗が引かなくって…
そんな激アツ・シンガポールですが、太陽が絶好調なタイミングさえ避ければまだ大丈夫です。
例えば、午後５時とか６時頃に行くサイクリングなんかは超心地いいんですよ！
シンガポールは物凄くこだわって都市開発されているので、国中に自転車道があり、公園から公園を渡るようにシンガポール全土を移動出来るようになっています。
だからどこでもいけちゃう！
しかもこの道は所々に休憩所があって、そのクオリティが凄いんですよ。
屋根に給水所、トイレとベンチがあります。もちろん電気も付いてます。そしてちゃんと綺麗な設備！！！
ある意味、治安が安定しているシンガポールだからこそできる事だと思います。
違う国ならそこに人が常駐したり集会場所になっちゃいそうですよね。
という訳でちょっと遠出して中々自転車じゃないと行けないところに行ってみました。
旧マレー鉄道の廃駅、ブキティマ駅跡地です！
廃駅とは思えないくらいめちゃくちゃ整備されてる。
というかちょっとした写真スポットに出来るように、小さいトロッコみたいな乗り物が線路に置いてあります。
後ろの方に見える黄色い箱です。
あとよく見ると廃駅のホームも非常用出口の看板が光ってて、よく管理されているのが見えます。
さっすがシンガポール。
この写真には自転車１台しか見えませんが、この画角外にはもう１０台くらい停まっててサイクリストだらけでした。
こんな街から離れた場所でも人が多いと安心できるね！

Adjusting to the Singaporean heat has been extremely difficult, and I’m struggling like crazy!
5 minutes outside around 2 pm gets me looking like I’ve been in the sauna for 10 minutes or more.
It’s seriously quite surprising how much I’ve accommodated to the Japanese and Toronto weather in merely 3 years total.
But my body is definitely not happy with the temperature 😀
I must say it’s also my fault for being outside at the worst time.
The sun around lunchtime is terrible, but other times are relatively better.
For say, going cycling around 5 pm is a treat!
The wind is great and it’s not too dark outside yet.
On that note, did you know Singapore is cleverly made to cater to cyclists and runners?
There are these roads called the PCN- Park Connector Network- that is safe for runners, cyclists, rollerskates and others to use.
This road connects almost all the parks in Singapore together like a web, so technically you can go anywhere you want on a bicycle!
And that’s not even the whole story.
These PCNs have small stations every once in a while that has a roof, a water fountain, restrooms and benches, so you don’t have to worry about rapid rains, or needing water or the toilet!
Like a pit stop at car races, if you know.
It’s so cool.
To be fair it’s not a new thing and I knew about it since I lived here like 4 years ago and much earlier than that, but I never got the chance to put it to full use and experience it first-hand.
So it’s really fun to explore the parts of Singapore that aren’t just school!
