真夏のかき氷

さて少し前に日本に帰ってきて今も日本を満喫しているのですが、東京が本当に暑い。
気温が単純に凄く高いし、日差しが強すぎるし、湿度も相まって空気が肌にまとわりつくのが大変です。
トロントの方が夏は断然過ごし易い気がしますね。−３０度の冬のことは一旦忘れるとして。
日本ではあまりサングラスが人気でない気がしますが、私はサングラスがないと昼間は碌に前も見れません。
そして道に屋根や軒下が少なく、移動中は日傘がないと降り注ぐ日光にｼﾞｭｯと焼かれてしまいそうです。
みんなはこの痛いほどの直射日照にどう耐えてるんでしょうか？
しかもオシャレな日本人女性って高確率で、どんなに暑い日でも髪を下ろして巻いて可愛くしてらっしゃる。
私は耐えられなかったので、数年前から日本で必需品くらい普及している「ハンディファン」を真似して購入しました。
あの片手で持てる小さな扇風機のことです。
これがね、いい！！！！道理で普及しているわけです。
全然風がなくて首に張り付く髪が苦しい時や、外からお店などの中に移動してきて早く汗を引かせたい時に最適です。
勿論これだけで全ては解決しませんが、これがあるとないとで外出中の快適度が段違いです。
気になってたけどまだ買ってないという人には是非、お薦めしたいです。
そして日本の夏といえば、かき氷。
友人と遊んでいたら行列の出来ていたかき氷屋さんを発見し、入ってみました。
私が食べたのは手前のマンゴー味。
フワッフワで味も濃く、半分ほど食べ進めると甘いミルクアイスのようなものが入っていて味変になり、本当に美味しかったです！！
数千円のかき氷に価値を見出せる人と、どうしても納得できない人っていますよね。
「ただの削った氷なのに！」なんて意見もなんとなく気持ちは分かりますが、ここまでくると材料費もかかるでしょうし、何より私は夏場の昼過ぎに食べるかき氷はどんなスイーツより美味しいかもしれないと思います。やはり状況込みでの味です。
あとはガチガチの氷のブルーハワイかき氷を適当な夏祭りで食べられたら、夏の思い出として最高ですね。
スプーンで削りながら食べる氷塊のようなかき氷も、あの夏祭りの陽気な雰囲気と、提灯と、音楽があるからこそ美味しいんじゃないですか。

I came back to Japan a while ago and whilst I am still enjoying everything, it is really hot in Tokyo.
The temperature is too high, the sun is too strong, and combined with the humidity, you can feel the air cling to your skin the moment you walk outside.
I feel like Toronto is definitely easier to live with in summer. Let’s forget about the -30°C winters for a moment.
Sunglasses aren’t very popular in Japan, but I can’t even look straight ahead during the daytime without them.
Further, there are very few roofs on the streets, so if I don’t have a sun umbrella when I’m walking, I’m quite sure I’d get burnt to a crisp within a minute or two.
How does everyone else cope with this? I’m so sure climate change is getting out of control because it was not this hot a few years ago.
Moreover, a really high percentage of fashionable Japanese women prefer to wear their hair down and curled up in a cute way, no matter how hot it is. How do they not get strangled with all the hair sticking to your neck?
Well, I couldn’t stand it, so I saw the trend and bought a ‘handy fan’, which has been super popular in Japan for several years now. I’m talking about those little fans that you can hold in one hand.
And I see why it’s so popular!
It’s perfect for when there’s no wind at all and you’re struggling with your hair sticking to your face, or when you’ve moved from outside to inside a shop or another air-conditioned place and you want to stop the sweat out as quickly as possible.
Of course, this alone won’t solve everything, but it makes a huge difference to my comfort level when I’m out and about.
If you’ve been wondering about this but haven’t bought one yet, I highly recommend it.
Definitely bringing this with me to Singapore because the Singaporean heat and humidity will call for it!
