遊園地に行きたいラストティーン

エイプリルフールに時の流れを感じさせられる。
おはようございます。どうも、ケイトです。

４月に入りましたね！！
私は今月末に２０歳を迎えるのですが、今年の４月１日に成人年齢が１８歳に引き下がったため、なんかしれっといつの間にか成人になっていました。
皆さんは成人祝いに何を貰いましたか？
誕生日プレゼントと言ってしまえば例年通りにも聞こえますが、「成人祝い」だとなんだか厳かな…仰々しい感じがしますね。
とりあえず月末までゆっくり考えようと思います。

話は変わりますが日本的に４月と言えば新しい始まり〜的な雰囲気が流れると思いますが、私にとってはラストスパート始まったな…と思わされる時期です。
日本は学年度が３月までなのに対して、シンガポールやマレーシアのインターナショナルスクールは学年度が６月までです。
なので中学や高校の頃は３月末から４月頭に模試や試験が一度あってから春休みに入り、よっしゃ休憩もしたし６月まで走りきるぞ〜！という流れでしたね。
トロント大学の学年末は４月末・５月頭なので、今年は１１日から期末の本試験が始まります。
めちゃくちゃ残念なことに、２０歳の誕生日にも試験が被ってます。しかも夜7時からの試験。
２０歳だよ！？ディナーとか行きたいじゃん！！！なんでよりによって7時からなのよ！！という気持ちでいっぱいですが、仕方がないので大人しく試験を受けようと思います。悲しい。
ちなみに期末に向けて復習するか〜！なんて余裕かいてたらその前に今週・来週提出の課題とテストがポロポロポロポロ溢れ出てきてちょっと今めちゃくちゃ忙しいのですが。

そんな色々がありながらも、ちょっとくらい遊びに行こうという気持ちで出掛けた時に見つけたビルがこちら。

この車が壁に大事故を起こしてるビルは、カナダのテレビ局らしいです。
なんだかちょっと、ユニバーサルスタジオのハリウッドエリアとかの街並みってこんな感じだよな、なんて思ったり。

あとは新宿にあるゴジラを思い出しましたね、このごく普通のビル群に紛れ込む異質な感じが。

It’s already April 2022!
Can you believe how fast time passes by?
I was still trying to get over midterm results but finals are in a week or two. The term is almost over!

In Japan, Aprils are of new beginnings.
A new academic year, new classes, new jobs, everything starts in April when the cherry blossoms welcome you to your new life. Spring is when a lot of change happens.
But for me, April always reminds me of almost reaching the end of term.
Terms at the University of Toronto end on April so it’s quite literally the end of term now, but ever since primary school, our international school terms ended in June.
Especially around middle school and high school, April was when we finished our mock exams or final topic tests before finals, went into spring break for a week or so, and the last spurt to complete the run to the end of the academic year.
I find it rather interesting that although I am Japanese, my perception of April and what I think of it is quite literally the opposite!
Also it’s my birthday at the end of this month.
Sadly, terribly sadly, this year I do have a final exam ON my birthday.
Even worse, it starts at 7 pm so I can’t even go out for dinner that day or happily celebrate my day at all.
There isn’t anything I can do about it, but come on. That’s a little sad.

Sephora（海外によくあるコスメストア）から誕生日プレゼントが来るらしいので、とりあえずそれを楽しみに頑張ります。
