薙刀となぎなた
おはようございます！
薙刀は武器の名前、なぎなたは武道の名前。漢字・ひらがな表記で使い分けられているらしいです。
どうもケイトです。
先日自分のクラブのコラボとして、トロント大学のなぎなたクラブと一緒にイベントを開催しました。
当初はひな祭りのイベントをする予定だったのですが、たまたまなぎなたクラブと予定が合う日がその1日だったのと、女の子のお祭りの日に女性の武道・スポーツとして有名ななぎなたをピックアップするのは相応しいのではないかということで、結果合同イベントにすることになりました。
わーい！
トロント大学になぎなたクラブなんて、珍しいものもあるもんだ、と思いませんか？
自分はトロント大学になぎなたクラブが存在して活動中である事自体はずっと前から知っていました。
遡る事2020年の夏頃、大学に入学する前に、クラブ一覧をじっくり読み込んだことがあります。
当時クラブ情報を見つけ、なぎなたなんて珍しい、ましてはカナダにある大学でなぎなたなんて、あるんだ！と衝撃でした。
大学が全てリモートになってしまい、自分も日本にいたため出来ないとは理解しながらも、そんなクラブがあるなら面白そうだなと思っていたのを覚えています。
ですがカナダに渡った2年の初めの頃は色々とドタバタしていて、最初のクラブフェアを思いっきり逃してしまいまして、そのまましれっと時が経ってしまい、失念していたら4年生になってしまいました。おかしいな。
という訳で、勿論イベントに参加してくれているみんなやコラボ先に楽しんで欲しいという気持ちもありながら、自分としても卒業する前に間近で技を見れてとても嬉しかった経験でした。超かっこよかったです。私利私欲じゃ…ないよ？
ちょっとした演習も見せてもらいました。ど迫力。
そもそもなぎなたに対して微妙に詳しいのは、自分は遥か昔になぎなたが題材の漫画を読んだことがあったからです。
その日からなぎなたに対してかっこいい！すごい！と少し憧れのような気持ちを持っていました。
どこでどんな知識が役に立つのか、分からないものですね。
多分10年近く前になんとなく興味で読んだ漫画の知識がここで活躍するとは。
おかげで難航していた会議で、ひな祭りと同じ日に出来るよ！と自信を持って推すことができました。
しかもなぎなたクラブの先生もその漫画を読んだことがあったみたいで、話も大盛り上がりしまして。まさかの共通点！
結果みんな笑顔だったのでオールオッケー。

Who knows naginata?
Recently, we held an event in collaboration with the University of Toronto’s Naginata Club.
We had originally planned to have an event for Hina Matsuri (Girls’ Festival), but it happened to be on the same day as when the Naginata Club was free, and we thought it would be appropriate to pick up Naginata, a famous women’s martial art and sport, on the day of a girls’ festival. Yay!
I did know about the Naginata club at the University of Toronto for a long time, but it’s quite rare, don’t you think?
Back in the summer of 2020, before I entered the university, was when I read the list of clubs and found out about it.
At that time, I found the club information and was shocked to know that there was a Naginata club at a university in Toronto!
I remember thinking it would be really cool, but things were all online and remote due to COVID so I forgot about it for then. However, at the beginning of my second year in Canada, I was so busy and all over the place, that I completely missed the club fair again, and never remembered about it since then.
So, of course, I wanted everyone who attended the event and collaborated with us to have a good time, but it was also a great experience for me to see their skills up close before I graduated. It was super cool.
The reason why I am slightly familiar with Naginata is because I read a manga about Naginata a long time ago.
Since that day, I’ve always thought Naginata was really cool.
You never know where what knowledge will come in handy.
I had no idea that the memories from a manga I read almost 10 years ago would be useful here!
