新年
おはようございます。
どうもケイトです。
私のような生い立ちの人間が過ごす年末年始というのは少々面白いもので、様々な国の様々なタイムゾーンから「明けましておめでとう」の連絡が来ますので、体感１日と半分くらいはずっと「新年」気分になるんですよね。
特に年末年始は日本人の友達が大勢日本に一時帰国するので、日本時間0時での連絡がとても多いです。
トロントにいるとこの連絡が３１日の昼頃から始まるので、なんだかぬるりといつの間にか新年が始まっている気がします。
ということで、明けましておめでとうございます。
そんな長い年始を過ごし、ついに明日からは冬学期が始まります。
履修登録は済んでいるにしろ、前学期の成績及び単位情報がまだ出きっていないので、ソワソワする日々です。
秋学期にもし、落単してしまったとしても、冬学期の間に卒業必要単位数は取り直せるようにと考えてと夏頃に登録したのできっと大丈夫であるとはいえ不安は不安。
余分に取っているので、情報が出次第必要のない単位を落として、一つ一つ科目に集中したいというのが本音です。
その講義を取りたい他の人のためにも、履修期間中に落とさないといけないのでね。
早く出てくれないかな。
ちなみに明日から学期が始まるというのに、まだ何科目かのレジュメが公開されていません。
流石のクオリティですね。この大学に通い始めて4年目ですが、毎年講義の前日ギリギリくらいにやっと公開されている印象です。
今までの最高記録は当日朝公開でしたね。
あまり期待せず、ゆっくりと待ちたいと思います。
それにしてもやっぱり今年はまだまだ雪が少ないです。
去年と一昨年に現地の友達から「今年は降る年だね」と言われていたのが、やっとちゃんと理解できました。
こんなにも差があるんですね。もうちょっと微妙な違いだと思っていました。
１月後半から２月頃にはどうなっているのか、気になるものです。

The beginning of a new year is a bit of an interesting time for people with a similar background to mine, as we receive “Happy New Year” messages from various time zones in various countries. So this “New Year” timing isn’t exactly only at 00:00 when the clock hits 2024, but more like so for about a day and a half.
Especially because a lot of people go back to their home countries for the holidays, and a lot of my Japanese friends will be in a Japan timezone, these messages arrive to me by lunchtime on the 31st of December 2023, Toronto time.
But anywho. Happy New Year!
The winter term starts tomorrow, and hopefully, this will be my last term at this university.
Even though I’ve already really thought through and registered for my courses, I still haven’t received my grades and credit information from the previous semester, so it’s still very unclear how this could go.
I have been extra careful when I did the registration, and prepared so that even if I fail a course in the autumn term, I could regain the required number of credits for graduation during the winter term.
So it should be fine, but I am worried.
Since I am taking extra credits to prepare for the worst, I can drop the courses I don’t need as soon as I get the information on last term.
That way I can concentrate more on one subject at a time.
Also, importantly, I have to drop these courses during the course registration period to make space for other people who want to take those lectures.
So hopefully they come out soon!
Sidenote, there has been very little snow this year, and I’m finally understanding what my local Torontonian friends were saying when they said it was a snowy year last year.
Didn’t expect it to be so varied each year, so it’s quite a surprise for me.
