どうも、秋休み中のケイトです。
思った通りに課題が進まなくて多少ドタバタしておりますが、友達とご飯に行ったり、泊まりがけでロードトリップに行ったりなど満喫したのではないでしょうか。
昔から疑問に思っていることなのですが、なんでこっちの人、というかカナダアメリカの人は、ロードトリップという名目で当たり前のように半日以上運転し続けられるのでしょうか。
慣れなんだろうけど、数時間数日連続で車に乗り続けるとか腰イカれないのかな。
あと車はいいのになんで飛行機移動は嫌いな人がいるんでしょうか。
個人的には飛行機の方が歩けるし、ご飯出るし、寝れるし、いい気がするんですけども。
まぁなんだかんだ今回は短時間の移動だけでしたが、とても新鮮でしたね！

暖炉でパンを温めちゃったり。大学生っぽいなぁなんて思ったりなんかもして。
話は変わりますが、なんとカナダ、小切手の入金を携帯の銀行アプリで出来るんですよね。
知ってました？
小切手の表と裏の写真を撮って、金額を確認用に再度アプリ内で記入するだけです。
超お手軽じゃないですか。3分もかからないかもしれない。
私なんと先週初めて気づきまして、興奮してその晩会った友達にも伝えたところ、とても綺麗に驚いてくれました。
あまり使うこともないですし、留学生とかには知られていないことだったりするのかもしれないですね。
多分カナダの銀行アプリならどこでも対応しています。
シンガポールにいた時に小切手を入金しようと思ったら、不運なことに入金できるATMが何故か徒歩圏内に全然無く、凄く！！！！手こずった思い出があるので、この楽さには本当に拍子抜けでした。
というかまさか携帯アプリで出来るだなんて思いもせず、長いことその可能性について全然調べもしなかった自分に気づいてしまい、少しショックでした。
もっと早く入金方法について調べていたら、ATMに行かないとな…なんてずっと考えながら日々を送る必要はなかったんですからね。
小切手は全部ATMまで持っていかないといけないという認識が凝り固まってしまっていたようです。
こういうのはやっぱり１回調べるべきだなぁ。常識は国ごとに違うんだと再度確認しました。
時代に置いていかれないように努力したいものです。

It’s not been the neatest week because I haven’t been able to get my assignments done as smoothly as I’d hoped, but I’ve had some great times going out for dinner with friends, going on overnight road trips with them and so on.
You know, I’ve always wondered why people here, or rather people in Canada and the USA, willingly drive for ridiculously long hours in the name of a road trip.
I guess it’s just something they’re used to, but I wonder if their backs don’t get sore from being in a cramped car for several hours or days in a row.
Also, why do some of these people dislike air travel while cars are fine?
Personally, I think flying is easier because you can walk, eat and sleep whilst travelling.
By the way, you can deposit cheques with your mobile banking app in Canada. Did you know that?
All you have to do is take a photo of the front and back of the cheque and enter the amount again in the app for confirmation. It’s super easy, maybe less than three minutes.
I only just found out about it last week, and I was so excited that I told a friend I met that night, and they were extremely surprised as well.
Likely it’s because I don’t use cheques very often, and maybe it’s something that other international students won’t know about either.
When I was in Singapore I had to deposit a cheque, but unfortunately there were no ATMs that could take cheques within walking distance for some reason and I remember having a hard time trying to deposit it, so it was a huge surprise how easy it was in Canada.
Also, I was a bit shocked to realise that I had never thought it was possible to do it with a mobile phone app and had not researched the possibility for a long time. If I had just done one Google search about how to deposit a cheque earlier, I wouldn’t have had to spend so many days thinking about going to an ATM.
If anyone has to deposit a cheque in Canada, don’t make the same mistake as me!
