エクステンデッドエッセー！！（呪文）
おはようございま〜す。令和初のケイトです。
時代が変わるって、なんだか変な話ですね。
平成生まれだからねぇ。。。珍しいタイミングに会えたなとは思ってます。
令和って響きが妙にオシャレよね〜〜！！！（アホ）
でもあの発表の瞬間ってすごい雰囲気あるね。かっこよき。
あんな綺麗に字を書けるようになりたいもんですね。🤔
てな訳で（関係ない）、今回はIBの必須エッセーこと、エクステンデッド・エッセーについて書こうと思います。
久しぶりに真面目に書くよ！！
Extended Essay、略して EE は4000字以内のレポートで、IBの最終成績にも直接関わってきます。
ちなみに英語の字数は日本語の字数と数え方が違うので、日本語でエッセーを書く場合は8000字以内です。
具体的に言うと１１年生の終わり間近に始めて、夏休みを越して１２年の１学期すぐに提出です。
なんちゅーー忙しいタイミングに入れてくれてんだ。おっと既にボロが出たぞ。
IBの教科に乗っ取ってジャンルごとにトピックを決めて、内容などもすべて生徒自身が決めなくてはいけません。
科学系を選んだ人たちはリサーチだったり、実験を実際にしてそのレポート。
経済等社会系を選んだ人たちは主に文献から、なんて具合です。
ジャンルを細かく言うと
科学系：化学、生物、物理、コンピューターサイエンス
社会系：歴史、経済、地理、心理学
芸術系：美術、映像、ドラマ、音楽
英語系：文学、言語
とかですね。他には数学、他外国語とか。大雑把ですけど。細かく言うともっと色々あるけどね。
数学なんて死んでもやる気ないですけど。
ちなみに私は翻訳文学について書きます。英語→言語の分野。
しがないバイリンガルにはそれくらいしか思いつかなかったのです。
あと科学系はいい点数とるのがめちゃくちゃハードル高いから嫌だ。。。おっとまたボロが出たぞ。

Japan has its own way of counting years- something similar to BC, AD- which is changed each time after the emperor changes. For the past 30 years it has been Heisei, and since 1st of May, it is now Reiwa.
So technically, it's a new era!
I'm going to be jotting down some things about one of the IB's toughest, longest, most time-consuming essay- the Extended Essay.
It's similar to a ~4000 words report, ~8000 if in Japanese, which students have to choose the topic everything individually.
The topic has to fall onto an IB subject, such as English Lang/Lit, Maths, Chemistry, Psychology… and World Studies, which is a combination of 2 subject areas in relation to a local event (such as agricultural practice in this particular area of the world).
What I find interesting about the EE is that you can write about a subject area which you don't take as a normal subject. For example, I can write a geography extended essay, even though I don't take geo in IB. This gives a chance for people to explore in whatever field they want to, and I guess this freedom of choice rule is very "IB"ish.
The science field EE usually requires a real lab experiment done individually, in school labs, and a report based on that. Many other EEs are more like a research paper, using lots of scholarly articles, reports, news, and so on.
My EE is based on English 3 Language, using 2 different translations of the same book. Again, it is based on the language itself, so I will be using publishes, articles and such from for example, linguists.
EE writing day is a whole off-timetable day allocated in UWC to head on with research, lab experiments for people who need to, etc. It's next week, so I need to get as much of my resources sorted out before that:)
