最後のパーティー？

東京では桜が満開だそうですね！
SNSでも沢山写真が流れてきて、やはり桜を見るとなんだか笑顔になれます。
トロントは4月末にピークを迎えるようなので、もう少し先になりそうです。
こちらはまだまだ雪が降ったり風が強かったりと、春らしい天気では無いのですが、早く暖かくなってほしいところですね。
今週は、私がトロント大学生として最後のパーティーの運営がありました。
楽しかった〜〜！！
前回より最大人数を減らし、完全事前予約・当日券無しにしたため、もっと統率の取れた１日になったのもよかったですね。
今回は「ファンシーもしくはフォーマル」というふんわりとしたドレスコードにしたところ、参加者がみんな思い思いの着飾った服装で来てくれて、とても視覚的にも楽しい会場内でした。
構想段階では「フォーマルのみ」の案があったのですが、内容が別にフォーマルではない楽しいパーティー寄りだったのと、細かいドレスコードがあると合う服装が無い・用意できないというパーティーの楽しみたい目的からはズレた、不本意な理由で参加者が制限されることを恐れて解釈を広げる言葉を使ったのですが、とても良いように動いたと思います。
ただのパーティー会場で、どこかの高級レストランに行く訳でもあるまいし、まとまりなんて無いくらいで丁度良いでしょう。
当日はきっとみんな、「着たいけどなかなか着る機会がない服」を着てきてくれたんじゃ無いでしょうか。
最終的にはスーツからロリータ服までいました。超ファンシー！
個性的な服装もとても多く、華やかでとても面白かったです！
個人的に、昔参加しようと思ったパーティーのドレスコードが厳しく、同じく４月頃の期末シーズンで買い物に行く余裕もないと思い参加を諦めたことがあったので、こう動いて良かったなと思いました。
学年度最後の打ち上げという名目だったため、少ししんみりする交流もありました。
大学を卒業する人の他にも交換留学が決まっている人もいて、みんなで別れを告げる交流も多々。
最後の解散間際では、お酒も高じて泣いてしまった人もちらほら。
パーティー後に会場の片付けをしながら、ここに来るのも最後かと思うと少し寂しい気持ちになりました。
クラブとしても何度も使用した会場だったため、オーナーさんも「また来てよ」と言ってくださったのですが、次このクラブがこの会場でイベントをやる時に私はいないのだな…なんて思ったり。
記念に撤収作業後の会場を載せておきます。
写真奥の狭くなっているエリアに机とドリンクサーバーを置き、飲み物係をしていました。
また自分もとても有難いことに、自分なりに声をかけるように意識していた後輩から卒業が寂しい、好きな先輩だったという言葉を頂き、本当に嬉しかったです。そんなことを言ってもらえるとは思ってもいませんでした。
それと同時に、やはり卒業が現実味を帯びてきた気がしますね。
期末試験も、頑張りましょう。

I heard that the cherry blossoms are in full bloom in Tokyo!
I’ve been seeing a lot of pictures on social media, which makes me happy.
Toronto’s cheery blossoms seem to peak at the end of April, so it will take a little longer, but more to look forward to.
It is still snowing and windy here, so it is not like spring yet, but I hope it will get warm soon.
This week I organised my last party as a University of Toronto student.
It was fun!
It was good that we reduced the maximum number of people from the last time, and we changed it to reservations only, so no tickets on the day of. This made it a lot more organised and easier to prep, in terms of food and drinks preparations.
We also decided on a vague dress code of “fancy or formal” for this party, and everyone came dressed to their heart’s content, making it a very visually interesting event.
When we were planning things, there was an idea of making it “formal only”, but we were afraid that a specific, detailed dress code would limit the number of participants for the unwanted reason of “not having clothes that fit the code” or “not being able to prepare them”, which was not the main idea of the party.
It’s just at a party venue with no specific theme anyway, not some fancy restaurant, and it doesn’t need to have cohesiveness.
And I think it worked very well. It felt like everyone wore the clothes they wanted to wear but didn’t get the chance to often. We had everything from suits to Lolita clothing. Fancy!
There were so many unique outfits, it was gorgeous and very interesting.
Personally, I was glad I made this move, because I had given up on going to a party in the past because the dress code was too strict, and I didn’t think I could find time to go shopping during the end-of-term season, as it was also around April.
Since it was the last party of the 2023-2024 academic year, there were a few sad moments here and there.
In addition to those who were graduating from the university, some had plans on going on exchange programs, so there were some conversations about saying goodbye to each other. Some tears as well.
While cleaning up after the party, I too felt a little sad thinking that it would be the last time I would come here.
We had used the same venue many times as a club, and the owner kindly told us to come back again, but the next time our club had a party at the same venue, I wouldn’t be there.
Finals are right around the corner!
