Now that things have calmed down a bit, how about I log some stuff down about last month’s University of Toronto graduation ceremony in more detail?
\nAs you know, the University of Toronto is quite large, and according to the official website, this year’s graduation ceremonies had a total of 21,500 students graduating.
\n<\/span>21,500 in graduates alone, not all current students. That’s one huge number!
\nThe ceremony was held on a whopping 34 separate occasions between the 3rd and 21st of June, with students from 123 different countries, ranging in age from 17 to 70, it said.
\n<\/span>It really is an extremely large\u00a0university. How\u00a0many of these people have I met? Probably not even 5%.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of the 34 ceremonies, I was in the ceremony for Honours Bachelor of Science, New College, and, I believe, the surname A-T. So the first half of the lot.
\nThe date was 20 June, which was almost the last of all the ceremonies.
\n<\/span>On the day of, there were about 400 students and I was exactly number 200, as it said on my name card.
\nEveryone was dressed in beautiful dresses and suits with matching graduation dressing gowns, so there was a glamorous yet slightly solemn atmosphere.
\nBehind the stage, everyone lined up in alphabetical order of surnames, which meant I met so many people I had never seen or talked to before, right before graduation. We became friends, took photos, exchanged contact details, and all that, which was quite fun.
\n<\/span>There were probably only four or five graduates at the same ceremony that I knew from before.\u00a0 How is that possible?
\n<\/span>Well, quite a lot of my friends are international kids, so a lot of them didn’t wait for the ceremony all the way in June after their exams in April to go back home.
\n<\/span>Plus many other of them were at other ceremonies, so I actually got\u00a0to see them at their ceremony which was on different days. That was fun.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ceremony itself is fairly simple, with each person walking on stage in turn and being called by name, as there are 400 people and we can’t spend so much time.
\nHowever, there was some time when everyone was given a card with their name printed on it beforehand, and if their name was “hard to intuitively pronounce in English”, they could write down the pronunciation of their name phonetically and submit.
\n<\/span>I wrote “KAH-TO” on the side so that KATO would not be called KAY-TO, but thanks to that, probably for the first time in my life at an official setting like this, they pronounced my name correctly and I graduated.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cool experience I would say!<\/p>\n
