It’s been almost a week since I arrived in Japan, and I’m still busy dealing with all the suitcases and cardboard boxes.
\nI have a lot of stuff from 3 years of living in Toronto, and my parents’ house doesn’t have much storage space…
\n<\/span>There’s just\u00a0not enough space to put things away!<\/span><\/p>\n

During that time, I had left some\u00a0opened biscuits\u00a0I had brought back from Canada beside my suitcase, not putting them away anywhere.
\nAnd the other day, when I finally sorted some of the luggage away, I tried to eat one before putting it away, to find out that it was very, very damp.
\nWell of course, why wouldn’t they be?\u00a0\u00a0If you leave an opened biscuit in Japan, in June, without putting it in a Ziploc or anything, of course it will be ruined by moisture.
\n<\/span>That was really careless of me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I went to Canada for the first time 3 years ago, I was so careful about humidity that I sealed everything and my friend who grew up in Canada told me that I don’t have to worry about it so much, because there is practically no humidity there.
\nPeople seem to get used to the environment after living there for 3 years, don’t they. Looks like I’d lost the habit out of me.
\n<\/span>If I don’t get used to this high temperature and humidity soon, I’ll start ruining more things\u00a0in Singapore, so I have to be careful.<\/span><\/p>\n

The other thing I am having a little bit of trouble with is that Japan drives on the left side of the road.
\nCanada is on the right side, and my brain has somehow not caught up there.
\n<\/span>The thing is, I don’t drive a car, but I do have to be aware of it when I want to drive in the bicycle lane.
\n<\/span>Honestly, to begin with, bicycle lanes in Japan are blocked by parked cars about 70% of the time and it’s a real problem.
\n<\/span>Because if you can’t go onto the sidewalk, you suddenly have to start pedalling into the middle of the road, which is simply dangerous.<\/span><\/p>\n

Come to think of it, I suddenly recall that one of the good things about Canada was that bike lanes worked.
\nThere is a whole separate lane for the bicycle lanes and the parking lanes. The bike lane is just for bicycles.
\n<\/span>It is good, isn’t it? I know it costs a lot of money, but it would be nice if the Japanese streets were like that.<\/span><\/p>\n
