The beginning of a new year is a bit of an interesting time for people with a similar background to mine, as we receive “Happy New Year” messages\u00a0from various time zones in various countries. So this\u00a0“New Year” timing isn’t exactly only at 00:00 when the clock hits 2024, but more like so\u00a0for about a day and a half.
\nEspecially because a lot of people go back to their home countries for the holidays, and a lot of my Japanese friends will be in a Japan timezone, these messages arrive to me\u00a0by lunchtime on the 31st of December 2023, Toronto time.
\nBut anywho. Happy New Year!<\/p>\n

The winter term starts tomorrow, and hopefully, this will be my last term at this university.
\nEven though I’ve already really thought through and registered for my courses, I still haven’t received my grades and credit information from the previous semester, so it’s still very unclear how this could go.
\nI have been extra careful when I did the registration, and prepared so that even if I fail a course in the autumn term, I could regain the required number of credits for graduation during the winter term.
\n<\/span>So it\u00a0should be fine, but I am worried.
\nSince I am taking extra credits to prepare for the worst, I can drop the courses I don’t need as soon as I get the information on last term.
\nThat way I can\u00a0concentrate more on one subject at a time.
\nAlso, importantly, I have to drop these courses\u00a0during the course registration period to make space for other people who want to take those lectures.
\nSo hopefully they come out soon!<\/p>\n

Sidenote, there has been very little snow this year, and I’m finally understanding what my local Torontonian friends were saying when they said it was a snowy year last year.
\nDidn’t expect it to be so varied each year, so it’s quite a surprise for me.<\/p>\n
