What do you imagine when you think of “popular foods in Singapore”?
\nI’m sure many names come to your head because the food in Singapore is delicious.
\nIt’s interesting because not all of the well-known foods\u00a0are Singaporean foods, as in originating in Singapore.
\nThese are foods that have been brought in from other countries,\u00a0localised themselves over the years and gained popularity within Singapore, hence me calling them “popular foods in Singapore”.
\nI guess it makes sense, especially with how young Singapore is as a country.<\/p>\n

Like\u00a0chicken rice.
\nAlthough Singapore is extremely popular with chicken rice, it’s actually a Hainanese dish that came to Singapore from Hainan immigrants\u00a0around the 19th and 20th centuries, and adapted over time\u00a0to local influences.
\nI’ve never been to Hainan nor have I had chicken rice from Hainan, so I don’t know how different the Singaporean staple dish is from its original recipe, but I would like to try it.<\/p>\n

Bak kut teh is also really popular and predominantly served in Singapore and Malaysia, but it also is said to originate from the Fujian province in China.
\nBut again, I have not been to Fujian or had what would be the “original” bak kut teh, so I don’t know how different it is.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, both\u00a0these dishes are great and I really suggest you try them if you come to Singapore.<\/p>\n
