I’ve finally been able to go see Suzume in theatres!
\nGosh, I’m so glad it was still showing at the cinema.
\nIt was released in November last year so I was worried it would be over by now, but I got to watch it at the last week of showings.
\nI was really waiting for it to come to cinemas in Toronto to watch it as soon as possible, but they only brought it in around April and I was way too busy with everything by then.
\nSo super happy I made it in time.<\/p>\n

The movie itself doesn’t have a very happy feel to it, by the way.<\/div>\n
It does have a happy and optimistic ending and draws some romantic elements within, but the themes they cover in the movie are very serious topics\u00a0such as adoption, intertwined with a lot of fantasy elements.<\/div>\n
The main element is earthquakes in Japan, also depicting\u00a0the March 11th, 2011\u00a0T\u014dhoku earthquake as Suzume the protagonist herself is a survivor.<\/div>\n

But that, I didn’t think of so seriously until the day before I went to the cinema.<\/div>\n
Because I jolted awake\u00a0with my phone blasting an earthquake alert alarm, as an earthquake around magnitude 5 hit Tokyo that morning.<\/div>\n
And I freaked out and rescheduled the day I was going.<\/div>\n
Which turned out to be a brilliant decision, because gosh the movie had quite a lot of scary earthquake elements.<\/div>\n
Especially with blasting movie theatre speakers, those earthquake alarms are terrifying.<\/div>\n
I probably wouldn’t have been able to concentrate on the movie if I had gone on that day.<\/div>\n
