This week I had plans to go to Niigata prefecture, and luckily for me the timing was perfect and\u00a0I managed to slide into a large fireworks festival!<\/p>\n
Niigata prefecture is up north in Japan, about 2 hours by bullet train (shinkansen) from Tokyo station, and is a pretty cool place with loads of great food and culture.
\nI love travelling on bullet trains.
\nIt’s often a really long ride so you would usually get yourself an “Eki-ben”, meaning bento boxes sold at the station, and just sit down and chillax during the ride with some really good food.
\nIt’s such a special experience to\u00a0Japan, so happy I got to do that here.<\/p>\n
So in Niigata, they usually hold the biggest fireworks festival in Japan called “Nagaoka Hanabi”,\u00a0which had\u00a0been unable to take place for the last 2 years due to covid restrictions.
\nAnd this year was the first one in 3 years since the last one was held!!
\nI was so lucky to get a seat at such a popular event.
\nIt was a full 2 hours filled with beautiful and super carefully crafted fireworks, I was in awe for the whole 2 hours.
\nThe last time I had seen any fireworks was the 2019 to 2020 countdown in Singapore, so it was super fascinating to see so much after a while too!
\nI feel like fireworks outside of Japan are usually treated as those countdown events during the winter, but for me as a Japanese, it’s a summer festival event. So I’m super happy I got to enjoy the festive feeling whilst I was here.<\/p>\n
