So it’s been about\u00a0a month and a half since I’ve moved to Toronto, and let us talk about the weird experiences I’ve\u00a0encountered so far.
\nBecause OH MY GOD.<\/p>\n

I’ve had 1 person coming up to ask\u00a0me if I was Japanese and that if they could take a photo of me- for a solid 3 minutes before I ran away, and another person who asked if I was going home and tried following me home after that.
\nTalk about being creepy!
\nAnd for both of these, I wasn’t like, alone at night or anything.
\nBoth situations were during daytime, the first case when I was out sightseeing with about 8 other people with lots of other tourists around us, and the second case happened at a really crowded train station.
\nI’d imagined that these situations were rare and unlikely but NO, after asking a couple of my friends who had been in Toronto for longer than me, apparently this is normal.
\nShe told me that she’d also been asked if she was Japanese, and got followed around after that. Ugh.<\/p>\n

Another thing that felt really weird to me is being yelled at on the streets.
\nDuring the past month and a half, I’ve been yelled at 3 times.
\nOnce was when I was walking with another friend of mine, and some men yelled out their car window as they drove past us.
\nIt was too sudden and I didn’t really pick up what they said, but my friend told me it was bad and that I didn’t need to know. Honestly, I don’t want to know either.<\/p>\n

The second time, which most definitely shocked me most, was getting obviously racist comments.
\nI was out with a couple of other Japanese and Korean girls, when this random dude came up to us and started screaming stupid stuff like Go back to China! or You brought the COVID virus here!!.
\nOf course, racist comments like these are absolutely a waste of time to EVEN listen to, never should be tolerated, dumb and genuinely\u00a0terrible. But kudos to him for getting the Asians completely messed up.<\/p>\n

The number one “what was that for” prize goes to the random lady who started yelling at me for wearing a cardigan. I wonder if she would have let me go if it was a hoodie.<\/p>\n
