Did anyone celebrate Christmas this year?
\nI know a lot of religions don’t celebrate Christmas altogether, but Japan does- just in a non-religious way.
\nAt this point, I doubt everyone knows why we even have Christmas.<\/p>\n
This may be famous, but when it comes to holidays in Japan, it’s very messy.
\nChristmas is celebrated, although, with a high chance, no-one in the room is religious.
\nIt’s just the idea of celebration, getting together for a feast and presents, that’s celebrated. It’s also often referred to as a romantic night for couples to spend together (for reasons I have no clue to).
\nAlso, Halloween is just a pumpkin-ghost-dress-up festival where everyone gets suited up in whatever outfit they want to. In my personal opinion, year by year the “spooky” idea of Halloween just gets forgotten and is becoming a party excuse.<\/p>\n
I can go on forever of this “list of things Japanese culture had picked up but for no reason”, like easter or valentines day- easter’s just a chocolate egg-bunny-spring festival, and surprise! On a Japanese Valentine’s day, girls will give chocolate (yes, chocolate) to the people they like, e.g. their friends and crushes.<\/p>\n
Don’t ask me where the whole idea of these things came from, because I have absolutely no clue.
\nGuess we just like to celebrate stuff?<\/p>\n
The point is, that I ate a cake and chicken for Christmas.
\nOh, wait, I forgot to mention.
\nJapan eats chicken for Christmas, not turkey.<\/p>\n
Don’t get me wrong- it’s not like we don’t eat turkey, turkey legs are the<\/strong> most popular menu in Tokyo Disney.
